"Weve had an eventful first 48hours of the 2012 Normandy Channel Race. We 've lost count how many manoeuvres, sail changes and anchorings we 've done. But it has all been for a good cause with some really close and exciting racing. We anchored 4 times this morning needing 230metres of rope which, got a bit boring to pull up to say the least.

It was a little surreal sailing through the solent yesterday and then continuing out the other side as, it 's a place we normally associate with day sailing.

Up until this morning there were 4 of us fighting for the lead but, for the time being it has dwindled down to a match race between us and Campagne de France. Although the pack are 5-10miles behind - with lots of tidal gates and options yet to come I 'm sure we haven 't seen the last of them. Campagne de France have been ahead most of the day but, we have just managed to get a 300metre lead on the final approach to lands end, hopefully we can protect it...

We have just about had enough sleep but, hoping this evening will allow us to catch up a bit. We 're also hoping to bump into the MOD 70s as they scream past early tomorrow morning.

The following 48hours wont be the same, the tactics will be a bit different and boat speed will be much more important. Hopefully we 'll be able to hang on in near the front.

All for now
Sam"

Dave Rearick & Matt Scharl sur BODACIOUS DREAM:

"I, Dave Rearick, skipper of Bodacious Dream no.118 entered in the Normandy
Channel Race have decided to retire from the race.

All is well on board.

I have made this decision based on certain criteria some of which is because of mechanical complications which are effecting our ability to be competitive in upwind conditions. We have also considered the weather and routing forecast which suggest the potential for six more days to complete the course without the input of adverse current conditions.

We have chosen a southerly course expecting to arrive at a port on the North West coast of France within 12 hours. We will leave our Sat c operational until we tie up and notify you of our safe location. We are unfamiliar
with the harbors in that area, if you have a suggestion, we would greatly appreciate any advice.

This decision weighs heavy on us, but more importantly, we 'd like to thanks you and the entire staff of the Normandy Channel Race for the efforts you
have put in in making the Normandy Channel Race not only a great challenge but a fun experience as well."

Bonne après-midi!

Louis / Sami
