RETIREMENT OF THE CLASS40 TRIMCONTROL

The Class40 Trimcontrol (190) helmed by Alexandre Le Gallais and Michel Desjoyeaux contacted Race Management to announce their retirement from the race after breaking their rudder system at around 03:00 hours this morning. The seriously damaged part is no longer operational and the crew does not have sufficient means aboard to repair it. “The incident relates to a rudder that had already kicked up the previous day after an impact or excessive loading. Unfortunately, the same rudder was affected last night: this time, when the rudder shifted back and came out of its housing, one of the lateral supports broke. The aluminium parts which hold the bearing at the top of the rudder split in half and the link rod is twisted. We still had a long way to go on this tack…” explains the crew. They are doing well and making for Port-La-Forêt.
