FLASH NEWS: COURSE CHANGE
The race committee of the CIC NORMANDY CHANNEL RACE announced today at 3:00 PM a change to the race course. A low-pressure system generating strong winds and very rough seas is expected Tuesday and Wednesday in Ireland, the Celtic Sea, and primarily in the Western English Channel. In order to protect the crews while maintaining a competitive course and event, it has been decided not to sail the planned course in Ireland, particularly the detour around the Tuskar Rock and Fastnet Rock lighthouses. The proposed course includes, in its final leg, an out-and-back in the Eastern English Channel, with, for the first time for the event, a passage through Dieppe. The new course is a long journey through the Channel, encompassing both France and Great Britain, Brittany and Normandy, and is in keeping with the history of the CIC NORMANDY CHANNEL RACE. Let’s bet that this change will in no way diminish the intensity of the race, with the added bonus of new segments never before covered even by veterans of the event. The total distance of the route, which may still be modified during the course, is 880nm.
