Setting out from Caen on Sunday 4th June, Xavier Macaire and Pierre Leboucher informed the race management of the CIC Normandy Channel Race at 4pm (French time) on Thursday 8th June of their intention to abandon the race due to technical problems.
Having sailed an excellent course, at the front of the pack since the start (1st at Land’s End, 3rd at the Fastnet), the two sailors can no longer use their J2 (genoa) after its hook broke and are experiencing ballast problems. These are two reasons why Xavier and Pierre have decided not to head back to Caen and to bring the boat back to Les Sables d’Olonne, her home port.
The duo are doing well, but the disappointment of not being able to take on their rivals to the finish line is immense.
