First gallop for the Class40 Championship 2021
The final event on the 2020 schedule due to the 4-yearly ‘transhumance’ across the Atlantic by the Class40s, the NORMANDY CHANNEL RACE will return to its traditional May slot in the spring of 2021 making it the first meeting in the Championship. In this way, the great Norman classic is scheduled to run from Thursday 27 May to Sunday 6 June 2021 with the race setting sail on Sunday 30 May.
After a year punctuated by cancellations, the Championship should be able to return to its more familiar rhythm in 2021. As such, on top of the NCR, the list of main events is set to include Les Sables-Horta in July, the Fastnet in August and the Transat Jacques Vabre at the end of the year. Aside from the Fastnet then, 2021 will be dedicated to the delights of double-handed racing.
A 12th edition of the Norman adventure
The 2020 edition will certainly go down as a race to remember, not least because it was the only Class40 meeting of the year due to the health crisis, but especially as a result of the abundance and quality of the line-up, the intensity of the competition and the extension of the TV broadcast to include the whole of western France thanks to our partner France 3… In fact, it’s worth noting that 86,330 people followed the live Facebook coverage of the start!
Sticking to the roots of its programme and its course (the Notice of Race is available and registration has opened), each year the NORMANDY CHANNEL RACE still manages to tell a different story, which is as much to do with its competitors (50% new entries in 2020) as how the race plays out.
One thing for sure though: with every passing year, it gets increasingly difficult to secure the French Sydney-Hobart trophy!
